Meta Updates You Should Care About

I’ve seen A LOT of chatter about the impending Facebook Shops updates that roll out next year and I definitely want to clear up some of the confusion.

Let’s break it down:

  • Starting June 5, 2023

    • If you setup a new Facebook shop with your Comment Sold or Shopify product catalog, you MUST have Checkout with Facebook or Instagram enabled

      • If you already have a Facebook shop setup, but without checkout enabled, no changes

    • If your Facebook Page has not yet been updated to the New Pages experience, it will be updated automatically.

  • Starting April 24, 2024

    • Shops without Checkout with Facebook or Instagram enabled will no longer be accessible

    • Businesses without checkout-enabled will no longer be able to use features associated with Shops including organic product tagging in posts

Side note: I know Comment Sold is working on being able to streamline the connection between CS and FB/ IG enabled checkout, however, I don’t have further details on the scope for it to be rolled out.

The biggest misconception I’ve seen in group chatter has been regarding the fees for enabling checkout on FB/ IG.

  • If you have a Shopify account that is connected to Facebook, you will be the charged the processing fee by Shopify directly for your Meta onsite orders aka NO CHANGES OR ADDITIONAL FEES for enabling checkout through FB/ IG.

  • Additionally all orders and returns are processed through your Shopify account, according to your return policy and processing times.
