Shoutout To Systems

If your entire world spins out of control for a month or two, do you have systems in place so your business doesn’t get caught up in the hurricane?

A little over a month ago I had to drop everything and fly to California, 2 days later flew back to Texas, then the next day DROVE back to California w my dogs. I stayed there for 3 weeks, drove back to Texas, then 4 days later flew to Rhode Island for 5 days. In the mix of all that, my family went round and round about putting my grandfather on hospice, we ultimately lost him, then I stayed w my grandmother to help w the house, make arrangements, plan a funeral on the other side of the country, etc. Got back from Rhode Island and 💥 I have covid. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Throughout all of this, my business really didn’t skip a beat. At most, some reports were delayed by a day and the biggest hiccup was yesterday when I sent a couple emails with broken links. 😵‍💫

Y’all, I promise you - I am not super woman - I just have super systems in place.

For a couple days I thought about whether or not to share this, but considering throughout this entire time I kept saying to myself how grateful I was to have previously implemented systems that allowed my business to run while my personal world was chaos, so I figured I’d share.

That’s not to say that every single part of my business thrived. I think it is important to highlight that I didn’t do any consultations, create any blog posts or Facebook group posts - all of which generate leads and are essential to sustaining my business longterm.

However, because I constantly run lead gen ads in the background AND maintain a certain level of engagement on a very regular basis, it was ok to take a month off from the engagement part when my brain really wasn’t in a place to write a blog post. Ya know?

Now I have a service based business so my systems will be VERY different than an e-commerce business. For example, your way of maintaining engagement is likely on your Facebook page, group and Instagram. And rather than lead gen ads to cold customers, you can retain existing customers by constantly running retargeting, app ads in the background. Did you know that you can run all of those for just $5/ day? 🤯

I challenge you to take a look at the efficiency of your business and ask yourself if it would not only run, but be profitable without too many visible speed bumps to customers while you prioritized. It’s definitely not a set it and forget it situation, but if you NEEDED to, could you work a just couple hours a day? And would those most important to your business really notice?

What sort of systems does this encourage you to implement or rework? How will your monthly planning change? What templates for email and SMS will you create? Will you put more of an emphasis on your shopping app?

AND if you’re wondering how the heck you set up ads to run in the background for $5/ day, I got you. 😚 This whole thing has inspired me to offer something for people who don’t want regular monthly ad management with a retainer fee, but want a way to retain existing customers. I’m working on that now and should have it launched in the next week or so. If you want first dibs, pop your email below and I’ll add you to my list to be notified first!
