Take It Or Leave It
Lemme tell y’all about Dolores the sandwich shop. Dolores is this tiny shop around the corner from my house and TBH when I first moved here, I walked by and didn’t think much of it. Then a neighbor mentioned how great the sandwiches are and I started following on IG. Y’all THEY ARE BOMB.
I have to be careful because they are around the corner and ya girl doesn’t need to be eating there daily. Instead they are a special treat about once a month and I STALK their IG to see what the specials are each week that way I can get READY.
This week on IG they announced an eggplant parm sandwich. MY FAVE!!! I was so ready and made sure to remind myself because they often sell out their specials.
I called around lunchtime on Thursday and asked for the eggplant parm sandwich. She said ok pickup in 30 min!
I didn’t get to order the size, nor did she even tell me the price. Typically when I order a regular sandwich, I get a size small because it’s SO MUCH FOOD!
The specials are only available in large. You either want it or you don’t. If not, they move on to the next order because someone else will take it.
For me, it means at least 2 meals out of the one sandwich. Plus the added thrill of walking over to grab it in between calls makes me so happy! (Going from having to drive everywhere to living in a walkable city makes these outings truly sparkle).
When I placed the order, she never told me how much it cost; which would have been irrelevant because I was SOLD no matter what! In fact, she didn’t even tell me when I picked up - I just paid and skipped the whole way home.
Again, if you don’t want to pay for the size large $13 sandwich - someone else will and you can go elsewhere - like the sandwich place one block over. Who does not have specials, an Instagram worth following, nor does the food even come close, but it is a little cheaper.
Dolores doesn’t worry about the shop around the corner because she knows that her food is superior and she can charge more for it because she knows the value of her sandwiches!!
She is also 10000% willing to let a customer go who does not see her value. She isn’t chasing them down wheeling and dealing sandwich deals. That elite take it or leave it mindset keeps her focused on the people setting reminders to phone in their lunch orders, who then write an entire metaphorical blog post about them. ;)
